They're back!

Taken just prior to the camera falling and hitting the ground and breaking the lens. Now I'm down to one... which is pretty scary for this camera junkie!

Edit: Whoops...looks like I forgot to hit the publish button...tee hee hee... that happens sometimes!

It went how far???

A little tardy on the Sticks With Chicks followup... but.... here you go.

So check it out.

Four inexperienced golfers facing a course that was far beyond their experience and capabilities. But it didn’t matter. We were there for the laughs, the drinks, the food and the prizes. The golf thing was kind of secondary.

We teed off at the sixth hole and to be honest, nothing looked promising. It was a good thing we were playing “best ball” (I think it's also called Texas Scramble??) and that we had golf carts because it appeared that the two hours they allotted us to play the nine holes would’ve turned into five. We were certain of it.

But we got better. We were making contact with the ball and it was moving down the fairway in the right direction (forward!!). We lost a couple of balls in the trees, but that was okay. We had about 100 between us. We did risk running out of tees however, but I understand that you don’t necessarily need to use a tee. You do need to use a ball though, so we were good, we had it covered.

The weather report had said sunny and hot. But as we hit the 7th hole, the sky was telling us different.

We kept saying “maybe the storm is heading away from us” and were hoping that the clouds would get the hell outta Dodge and head in the other direction, away from the course.

We (and by “we” I mean all of us) bogie’d the 8th hole and teed up at the 9th. A par four, we figured we were out of luck, and what little skill we had left, and thought for sure we’d be able to do it in eight.

Who would’ve ever dreamed that one of us would hit a 170 yard drive off the tee.

Yes, One Hundred and Seventy yards!!! From someone who had only picked up the clubs for the first time this year the night before! Yeah…I know, you’re probably thinking “here we go… she thinks this is fishing and is telling us tales” but no, the distance has been verified. Pictures have been analyzed, course map scrutinized. Those who know more than I have indicated the drive was anywhere between 160 and 180, so the difference has been split and we’re going with 170.

It was so very, very sweet.

As we were getting ready to hit to the green (and yes, we would’ve been on the green in two I just know it!!), the horn sounded and we were pulled off the course. The storm was upon us and we were getting wet.

It was very sad. And I’ve spent the last two days obsessing over the fact that I had put a marker down where the ball was and really, really, REALLY wanted to go finish that hole.

So, what was the outcome of our 3 ½ holes of golf? Well, we had a great time. I’m officially addicted. Another has decided that this golf thing is pretty good. One has said “okay, we are doing this again real soon” and a golf date has been set with another. I’ve entered again for a shot at the July date but in the meantime, the planners have been opened and golf dates have been scheduled.

I wonder if the marker is still there and if they’d let me go and finish that hole….??

Ciao!

Changes

There's nothing like being home alone on a Saturday night, not being able to enjoy a few glasses of grape because you have to get into your car and go pick up your son who's working (and still hasn't got his license! - not that there have been any further attempts mind you...) and monitoring the dog's as life approaches "situation critical" where the "bonding" of a boy dog and a girl dog is really all they're thinking about because, well... just because.... and wondering if the other two male members of the household are enjoying themselves camping and fishing while you sit here bored out of your mind.

The internet is boring me. So are the inboxes.

So, between watching golf and keeping the dogs from eating their way through the various doors that they're locked behind, I made some changes to the blog. It's a little more summer-ish now, at least I think so. And with the first day of summer being tomorrow, my timing is impeccable if I do say so myself. I changed the photo as well as updated the profile.

I also downloaded the camera before the happy campers left so I've been playing with some pictures. Which I'm going to share with you... now, now... contain yourself!

I counted 25 of them.

Find the egg? 3 out of the 4 made it long enough to fly away!

I can't tell you who this is... but he's taller than me!

That bird sat there for about 10 minutes. I think it was sleeping.

Look it everyone!!!! Grapes!

This has ended up being like a bad weed.

Deer in the back field, picture taken from the tree stand.

The "expanded" version of the fire pit.... we're downsizing a wee bit!
And this, my friends, has been my Saturday night. So far anyway.... There's still time to get into some trouble. I mean, the dogs will have to go to sleep sometime.... right?
Ciao!

And she survived to tell the story

Wow. What a ride it's been.

I have never, ever, EVER!!!! been that sick before in my whole life. Or... at least since that time we won that liquor basket and took it to the lake on New Years....yeah, that was pretty bad. But this time, it wasn't self-induced.

And it was worse.

This time, it was a combination of the various virus's/flu's/infections that have been going around. It nailed me so hard that I've forgotten a couple of the days that I suffered through it my fever was so high. I do remember some of the delusional dreams I had though. They were pretty cool... like the one where the dogs had puppies hanging off their tails (yes, "tails"... they each had three) and they weren't German Shepherds... they were Dalmations.

And the right to the core of the bone aching that running a temperature that high will bring on. The kind where you ache so bad that the only solution (after maxing out on Tylenol) is to lay in a bathtub of water that is actually hotter than you, just so you can stop hurting. Oh, and I couldn't possibly forget deciding to shave my legs in said hot bath, because having your body hurt that bad isn't really fun unless you decide to remove the growth of hair off your legs because shaving them couldn't possibly feel any worse than having to feel the sheets on them.

The fever also brought on the dizzy-ness... and loss of appetite (which worked out pretty good) and weakness. I spent a fair bit of time holding up the walls as I worked my way from the bed to the bathroom. And then came a really weird craving for smoked oysters on those Cheese Nip crackers (blech...I dislike both!) and the wanting of nothing more than to drink fresh orange juice. Made from real oranges. Right here. Right now, dammit!!

I went to the Doc which is something I never do. I mean, I get sick for a few days, I'm still able to function and get through it with little sacrifice and then I'm better. But this time, I couldn't function, couldn't get through it. I couldn't even get my ass out of bed for longer than 20 minutes! Convinced that I may have the dreaded... well, you know, that "flu thingy" that's all about and everywhere, I went and waited 3 hours to have the MD inform me that yes, I am ill, probably have a cold/flu combo and more than likely am having symptoms of the "flu thingy" but he couldn't confirm it with a blood test because I wasn't sick enough to warrant a trip to the hospital.

I'm not going any further on that, because, well, I might say some stuff that I really shouldn't say so ....

But I do believe I'm on the mend.

I went to work today. Points for that! Managed to make it through 3/4's of the day when exhaustion began to set in and I knew I had to leave right then or I'd risk falling asleep driving home.

Oh, I yelled at SG, #1 and #2 today. So that's another good sign.

And I ate some food and actually kept it in my body long enough for it to be digested!!! I know, too much information, but you have to know that I'm getting better!!!

Lots went on while I was on "sick leave".... Two of the three females are now "in season" and the lone male is not going to be happy. The pool boy came by and set the thing up. Rigged up a nice heating system too!... #2 was in it tonight. The gardener guy was also here which has allowed for the planting of some stuff. And the hummingbirds are back at the feeder, which I'm thinking the gardener guy hung up, but maybe I did?....

It's good to feel good again!

Ciao!

Third time the charm?

I'm not necessarily a lucky person. I mean, I enter contests, buy raffle tickets to support fund raising efforts, drop my nine dollars a week on the lottery... but I've never really won anything. Well, anything of substance. Sure, a free play, ten bucks, whatever.

This week has been different however.

I won a chance to go to a "ladies night" at one of the "specialty" stores. Three girlfriends and I, head on over for wine and appies, get a professional "fitting" done (and you don't want to know the vision that was running through my head!). Unfortunately, I started getting whatever the hell it is that has hit me like a truck and for the most part has me doing nothing but coughing and hacking and sneezing and aching.... And don't be thinking H1N1... And I wasn't able to go.

This morning, checking the email, I saw that I had won something once again. I was very excited. I was thinking "oh yeeaaah, Coldplay here I come!". Ah yes, no such luck. This time its for me and three girlfriends to enjoy nine holes of golf complete with dinner and great prizes.

Well now, this is certainly something that I can really enjoy! I mean, I would enjoy Chris Martin sooo much more, but, this was a nice second! Provided I get rid of whatever has invaded my body and put just about everything that has to do with living life on hold.

I immediately thought about how things happen in 3's. Good things. Not so good things. Twice this week I was notified that I'd won something.

One more?????

I will get my butt out the door sometime today to purchase what will no doubt be the winning ticket for tonight's lottery. I'm not necessarily looking for the whole amount, just a nice chunk of it thanks. Even the Extra would be sufficient.

Three times lucky? I'm going with it!

Ciao!

Full Moon in June

SG and I have been waffling over whether or not we should plant a garden this year. And if we do, just how big it should be.

You see, we have a very large garden. Actually it was a very large weed bed until earlier this week when we (and by "we" I mean SG) tilled it. We debated about spraying it with some kind of chemical laden weed killer in order to make our lives (and by "our" I mean SG) easier on the weeding front, but didn't get around to it. Which is okay. We like to stay as close to "organic" as we can (and by we I mean me). No chemicals here...

But its been tough to get motivated to plant the damn thing now that it's ready for seeds and plants. The apparently "spring like" weather here on the Canadian prairies has left a lot to be desired and as such has completely de-motivated me. I was very excited back in March with the thought of gardening this year. Finally a summer with no pups and a chance to pay it the kind of attention it needs in order to bring forth massive amounts of home grown produce. Cucumbers for pickling, tomatoes for canning, so much corn on the cob that we can't give it away....

I hit a couple of nurseries this past week, trying to coax the thumb to turn green and get myself excited. But I found myself just not interested.

Until this morning.

I realized that I do want a garden. A BIG garden!!! I know, I know...last year I said we were downsizing (and by "we" I mean SG) but I'm giving it one last kick at the dirt! I'm going to ruin the manicure (okay, no manicure but I could do some damage to the feet) and get some mud under my nails! Get a sore back and scrape up my knees as I maneuver my way through the black mud that will give forth copious amounts of more work later this summer!

I looked at the calendar. It's June 7th.

It's a full moon today.

An old friend of mine once told me that you should never put your tomatoes in until after the first full moon in June. Not only is it suppose to bring you good luck with the garden, the chance of frost after the first full moon in June is pretty slim. I've listened to this advice for many years now and it's never proven otherwise.

Time to play in the mud!!

Ciao!

Questions

Can someone explain to me why, on June 5, 2009, my furnace still needs to come on to provide heat to the house?

And why our low temperatures are in the 1C or 2C range?

And where is the sun?

And should I even bother planting a garden?

This is ridiculous...

Spring is finally here....
